Bowen Treatment
During a Bowen Treatment, the therapist will gather client history and other relevant information to determine goals of the treatment. Bowen Therapy is carried out with the patient lying on a massage table. The Bowen Moves are applied directly on the body, through light and loose clothing.
During the treatment, the therapist will make slow, gentle rolling Moves performed over muscles, tendons, nerves, and fascia. The Moves are performed using the thumbs and fingers. A treatment consists of a series of these Moves, allowing frequent pauses in between for the body to respond. These pauses (two minutes or more) are very important because they allow the body to react to the stimulus of the Moves and thus allow the body’s own healing response to be activated, which balances and resets the body. During these pauses, the therapist will step away from the client or even leave the room. A treatment usually lasts an hour.
Benefits
The principal benefit of Bowen Therapy is the often rapid, long-term, or permanent remission from pain, reduced stress, greater mobility, and improved physical and emotional enjoyment of life. Additional benefits can include increased energy, improvement in the immune system, rebalancing of the body, improved circulation and lymphatic drainage, and detoxification. Bowen Therapy has few contraindications and is very gentle, relaxing, and non-invasive. Since it involves no manipulation, it is therefore an ideal treatment for everyone, including children and the elderly.
