2025 Flying Star, Xuan Kong 飞星 Feng Shui 风 水

Every year brings changes in the flow of energy of the 9 stars of the Lo Shu or magic square. Each element has a home base, e.g. Fire, #9 is South. But each year, the 9 elements move to a different place, adding complexity to how the earth is influenced. The chart (left) shows the energies for 2024. (Read Here  for more information on the Magic Square) This annual movement must be overlaid on your home or office’s natal chart. (the chart that reflects your home at the time and on the place it was built.) The energies are interpreted through numerology and the 5 Element Theory. The ultimate interpretation considers many factors, including all landforms around a building and the building’s natal chart. For example, Star 1 is the auspicious Water Star (which relates to wealth) but is found in the SouthEast this year. It is slightly weakened since it shares the space with the Grand Duke this year. So unless cures are put in place this year, the Money Star won’t be as powerful. I recommend placing not only cures for the home or office as a whole, but also using extra enhancements and cures in important rooms where you spend a lot of time like offices, bedrooms, and family rooms. The front door is also a very important aspect of the dwelling and cures should be applied to this area.

8 MANSIONS – THE HUMAN ELEMENT

There are many different schools of Feng Shui. A thorough analysis of any dwelling will often include more than one perspective. The chart to the left describes how the sectors relate to the aspects of human life e.g. fame, relationships, and health. Each 45 Degrees bears the energy of one of the basic building blocks of the universe as described by Daoist philosophy – Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal. Each Section is also assigned a number directly corresponding to the Big Dipper in Numerology. These energies affect the aspects of human life. (this chart right is the same as the magic square, but one is hexagonal and the other is square) This chart reflects the native position of all the elements.

When your home’s natal chart is overlaid on this map, you can determine which sectors are best suited energetically for certain activities and you can make adjustments based on this knowledge. But the landform around the home or office must support the dwelling. To maximize the auspiciousness of a space, you can add or remove objects from the environment to help attract or discourage certain energy to make the dwelling a more peaceful space. In ancient times, the Emperor’s Palace would be constructed to maximize this energy, even if it meant moving rooms monthly or yearly! Today, we use the art of Feng Shui to maximize every potential.

To do this, we maximize auspicious elements (enhancements) and minimize unfortunate ones (cures). As a rule, one would place cures first, then enhancements. If you have objects, plants, paintings, etc. you have used in the past as cures, remove them from their place, clean them, and then replace them either in the same place, or another spot indicated by the new year. In classical Feng Shui, mountains generate energy and rivers conduct energy. In an urban setting and in a home, one would use objects to attract energy and movement to conduct this energy. Mountains can be other buildings, boulders and large trees (outside the home) or large heavy objects such as furniture or pieces of art inside the building. Virtual rivers would be roadways. The moving hands of a clock or flowing water in a fountain would conduct energy inside a home. We use the principles of the 5 Element Theory to decide what to use to balance a home or office. Ideally, this is done before the Lunar New Year, February 10 this year, but any time is better than not at all.

EAST/WEST FENG SHUI

Another important school of Feng Shi is East-West Feng Shui. This school considers the directions of the compass and determines which is most and least favorable for the individual. The person’s BaZi astrology chart is used. Of the 8 directions, 4 will be favorable and 4 unfavorable. An East Gua person will have the favorable directions of East, North, South, and North East. A West Gua person will favor West, North West, South West, and South East.

The drawing to the left is a full analysis of a home. The triangles in red indicate the yearly aspects of the Grand Duke Jupiter, the 3 Killings, and the Year Breaker. The green triangles indicate this homeowner’s best and most favorable directions. The numbers indicate the Flying stars of the home’s natal chart and the circled numbers indicate the yearly stars flying in. The home layout is in the background, indicating the Sitting and Facing Directions on the compass. The analysis involves the home and its surroundings as well as a room-by-room evaluation.

FENG SHUI NUMEROLOGY

The following two tables describe the meaning according to Chinese Numerology which Stars are auspicious and which are inauspicious, the element to which they belong, and the direction from which they fly this year. PLEASE NOTE: With the advent last year of PERIOD 9 which lasts for 20 years,  the interpretation of the stars shifts slightly. This new interpretation is noted in the charts below. Refer to the article Period 9 for a full explanation of the new period beginning in 2024 and what to expect. Also, bear in mind that these stars must be OVERLAID on your home or office’s natal chart to understand exactly how you should treat each sector (as in the drawing above).

In Metaphysics, the Stars refer to the Stars of the Big Dipper and this relationship gives them their meaning and power. The Ancient Chinese felt the energy of the Universe flowed to earth from the rotation of the Big Dipper and that humans incarnated, excarnated, and reincarnated through the path of the Big Dipper. All the Stars have an auspicious meaning and an inauspicious one. Some are more naturally fortunate, and others are so unfortunate they only become fortunate when they become the Ruling Star. Stars 1-7 relate to the 7 visible stars we are all familiar with. Stars 8 Zuo Fu Bi and 9 You Bi Xing relate to two helper stars of the Big Dipper invisible to the naked eye. The Star that is reigning in a period is the most powerful and auspicious star for the 20-year block. At the beginning of the next period, it begins to recede until it is completely untimely and negative or almost useless.  Thus all the stars shift. Some become stronger, some weaker and less fortunate.

Each Star is associated with the directions of the compass and one of the 5 Elements. 1 Water/N;
2 Earth/SW;  3 Wood/E; 4 Wood/SE; 5 Earth/Center; 6 MetaL/NW; 7 Metal W; 8 Earth/NE; 9 Fire/S.

The other yearly element that must be considered is the Grand Duke Jupiter, Tai Sui 太 岁 星 君. There are 60 such rulers, one for each sign of the Zodiac paired with each Element. Each Tai Sui is named after a famous Celestial General. His name this year is  General Wu Sui.  He is a stern ruler and must be honored. He arrives from a different direction every year and this year he approaches from the South East. Care must be taken to keep this area quiet so as to not disturb him. Do not sit facing him. No construction in this area of the house. For more information on Tai Sui, please click here

In Period 9, 9 is the most powerful and auspicious star. 8 Star becomes less strong but Star 1 strengthens because it’s the next Period Ruler (in 2044). Likewise, with Star 2 because it rules in 2064. Star 2 is the Sickness Star and thus is inauspicious naturally, so care needs to be taken with it this year. It will be auspicious when it becomes the ruling Star but until then, it’s not.  It’s somewhat like a royal family. 9 is King now, and 8 is the old King and 7 is his father, now deceased. Star 1 is the heir apparent and Star 2 is his son – maybe not even born yet. Stars 3, 4, and 5,  are cousins or younger siblings of the future king so they are not fortunate.

The Salt Cure

My favorite, industrial-strength cure for negative energies is the Salt Cure. This device will pull unwanted energies from a room. They are mere pennies to make (pun intended because you use pennies!) and they must be replaced each year at the Chinese Lunar New Year or up to a month before. Directions for making them are here.

As for other cures, details are listed above, sector by sector. These remedies may shift slightly depending on the home’s “Birth Chart”. If your house faces any of the inauspicious directions, extra caution should be taken. The same is true if a bedroom is in any of the inauspicious directions for the year. Depending on the dwelling’s chart, these influences can be better or worse. Refer to own your home’s drawing.
